Show 5 more staysSearch for somewhere in Blairgowrie and hotels, guest houses and holiday parks come up first. They suit a night or two, but a week in the hills is different: you want a kitchen, a door to shut behind you and somewhere to sit outside when the day is done. That's what self catering does best.
Hot tubs are rare in the town itself, so the stays on this page are in the countryside around it. Blairgowrie is a small Perthshire market town on the River Ericht with local cafes and supplies, while the holiday houses sit out where the fields give way to hills.
Converted farm buildings usually have the most character and the most bedrooms, a good fit for a group of guests round a big kitchen table. Lodges, bothies and pods are smaller and simpler, which suits a couple on a quiet retreat or a family that only needs the basics. The cards show the sleeping numbers so you can rule options in or out quickly.
Most of these cottages welcome dogs, with the number allowed shown on each card. The pods near Kirriemuir don't take dogs. Any extra fee varies. Check it on the holiday company's page before you book.
Each corner of this area has a different feel, so it's worth choosing one before you filter the cards. These are the places our stays are in, with the same straight-line miles the cards use.
| Area | Miles from Blairgowrie | What it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Rattray side | 3 | The closest to town for a pub meal, though you'll still drive in |
| Bridge of Cally | 4 | Big groups and walkers who want a river and hills on the road to Glenshee |
| Newtyle | 7 | Couples who want a quiet base with easy reach of Dundee |
| Lintrathen | 8 | A farm setting close to the Angus glens and the Loch of Lintrathen nature reserve |
| Stanley | 8 | The River Tay with a quick run into Perth for an evening out |
| Blacklunans | 10 | Hill country and the shortest drive to the Glenshee slopes |
| Abernyte | 11 | The Sidlaw hills with Perth and Dundee both in reach |
| Invergowrie and Longforgan | 13 | City days in Dundee with a countryside base |
| Bridgend of Pearsie | 13 | Small parties heading for Kirriemuir and Glen Clova |
Rattray is joined to Blairgowrie across the river, so the cottage on that side has the shortest trip for supplies. North of Bridge of Cally the farmland gives way to the Scottish Highlands, with the road climbing through Glenshee towards the Cairngorms National Park. If that's the draw, see our Glenshee accommodation page. South and east the land opens out and the Sidlaw hills are handy for Dundee. Our hot tub lodges near Dundee page covers that side in more detail.
Every holiday home on this page is a little different. These are the facilities that matter most when you compare them, whether it's a weekend break or a week away.
Hill and farmland views are common out here but gardens vary, so look at the photos to see where the tub sits. A deck or patio facing that scenery is half the reason to come to Scotland at all.
Pet friendly cottages are easy to find in this part of Perth and Kinross. Many stays also have an open fire or log burner, which is worth looking for outside summer. See luxury hot tub cottages for a special occasion.
The Cateran Trail is a circular route of about 64 miles through the glens that most people start and finish in Blairgowrie. You don't have to do it all: pick one section as a day walk. Scotland's Great Trails has the route. The riverside paths are gentler if you just want to stretch your legs and relax.
Golfers are well served by the local clubs. Blairgowrie Golf Club at Rosemount has the Rosemount and Lansdowne courses plus the nine hole Wee course, while Alyth Golf Club is a short drive east.
The area is also known for soft fruit, raspberries above all, so summer farm shops and roadside stalls are worth a stop. About ten minutes south by car at Meikleour you can see the beech hedge planted in the 1740s and recognised as the tallest hedge in the world. Historic Environment Scotland has the background on the estate.
| Place | Minutes by car | Why go |
|---|---|---|
| Dunkeld | 20 | Riverside woods and a cathedral |
| Kirriemuir | 25 | Angus town at the foot of the glens |
| Perth | 30 | Restaurants and a theatre |
| Dundee | 35 | Museums and the waterfront |
| Glenshee Ski Centre | 40 | Skiing in winter and hill walks in summer |
| Pitlochry | 40 | Highland town and a popular day out |
These are from the town, so add a little from your cottage and allow longer on the Glenshee road in snow. If one of them is the main reason for your trip, see where to stay near Dunkeld, Kirriemuir accommodation or where to stay near Pitlochry.
Summer in Perthshire is long and light, with daylight until about ten around midsummer. Autumn is a favourite across Perthshire as the birch and beech woods turn. A soak on a cold clear night is hard to beat in winter, when snow on the hills brings skiing and a good excuse for an open fire. Spring is quieter, while school holidays and the autumn colour weeks book up early.
Use this list before you commit to a week in Perthshire with a group of guests.
Tip: a hot tub can take hours to heat, a wood fired one especially. Ask the holiday company whether it will be ready when you arrive.

Yes. Several stays here sleep six or eight and the largest, near Bridge of Cally and Dundee, sleep ten. Use the sleeps filter above the cards to narrow the list.
Walking on the Cateran Trail and by the River Ericht, golf, fishing and day trips to Dunkeld, Perth and Pitlochry are the most popular, with the Glenshee ski area within reach in winter.
Perth is about half an hour by car and Dundee around thirty five minutes. Edinburgh is roughly an hour and a half.
The ski centre is about forty minutes north by car from the town, longer when there's snow on the road. Stays at Bridge of Cally and Blacklunans are closer still.
Late spring and early autumn are the best balance of weather and quiet roads, while school holidays and the autumn colour weeks book early.
