What “luxury” means on this page

Luxury is a word every cottage site uses, so here is how we use it. A stay appears on this page when the owner’s listing puts it in the luxury or premium category. It is not our own star rating. In practice it usually means a larger or better-finished building: a lodge with a big deck, a converted barn with a wood-burning stove and a proper kitchen, or a quiet cottage with its own private tub in the garden.

What to look for beyond the tub

The tub gets the photograph, but the rest of the stay is what you live in. Look at the sleeps and bedroom count on the card, whether there is a woodburner (use the filter for that), and where the stay sits. A lodge at Bridge of Cally or Blacklunans feels different from a barn at Lintrathen or a cottage near the coast at Carmyllie.

The tub type matters too. A private tub is yours alone for the stay. A wood-fired one is heated with a stove, so it takes a while to come up to temperature but suits a cold night. We print the type from the owner’s listing and leave it as just “hot tub” where the listing is silent.

Where the luxury stays are

There are two clusters. The Perthshire side has the larger lodges and houses, around Bridge of Cally, Blacklunans, Stanley, Rattray and Logiealmond, and several sleep eight or ten. The Angus side has barns, bothies and cottages around Kirriemuir, Lintrathen, Aberlemno, Montrose and Carmyllie. For a longer look at those two areas, see Perthshire hot tub lodges and hot tub cottages near the Angus glens.

Prices

The nightly figure on each card is the guide price from the feed. It is not a quote for your dates, and a few stays show no price until you open the owner’s page. Midweek and outside school holidays is usually where the better-priced nights are.

If the price is the first thing you want to compare, use the Price filter beside the cards, or sort by price, low to high.

Booking

Press Check Prices & Availability on a stay to go to the holiday company’s booking page. Your dates, the total and any dog charge are shown there before you pay.

Questions guests ask

Who decides which stays are luxury?

The owner’s own listing does. A stay appears here when it is in the luxury or premium category on the booking site, not because we have rated it ourselves.

Do the luxury stays have private hot tubs?

Most do, and the card says so. Some are wood-fired, and a few are shared and booked by the hour. Where the listing does not say, the card just says hot tub.

Can I bring a dog?

Many allow dogs, but not all. Tick Dogs welcome in the filters to see only the ones that do.

What is the price on each card?

It is the nightly guide price from the feed. The booking page shows the real total for your dates.
