What we mean by the Angus glens
The Angus glens are a group of valleys that cut north into the hills from the Strathmore plain: Glen Isla, Glen Prosen, Glen Clova, Glen Esk and Glen Lethnot. Kirriemuir calls itself the gateway to the first three, and Brechin and Edzell are the way into the others. They are quiet, steep-sided and green, and most of the roads in them end in a car park and a path.
The stays on this page are near the glens, not in them. We sort them by straight-line miles from Glen Clova, and each card shows the village it is in, so you can judge for yourself how far up or down the valley it is.
Where the stays are
Around Kirriemuir and Memus you are a few miles from the mouth of Glen Clova and Glen Prosen. Lintrathen and Blacklunans lead towards Glen Isla, and the Loch of Lintrathen is an RSPB reserve with the Reekie Linn waterfall not far below it. Further east, Tannadice, Forfar, Brechin and Aberlemno are on the plain but still within a drive of the hills.
Walking and winter
Glen Clova has well-used paths up to Loch Brandy, a steep climb, and into Corrie Fee, a National Nature Reserve at the head of Glen Doll. These are hill walks, so proper boots, a map and a look at the forecast are a must. In winter the roads at the head of the glens can get snow, and a stay with a woodburner indoors suits that weather. Use the Woodburner filter beside the cards if that is what you want.
Wood-fired tubs and dogs
Several stays near Kirriemuir have wood-fired tubs, heated by a stove and ready after an hour or so. Our wood-fired hot tub cottages page explains how they work. Some of those stays do not allow dogs; others do, and the card says. Filter on Dogs welcome if you are bringing yours.

Questions guests ask
Which are the Angus glens?
Glen Isla, Glen Prosen, Glen Clova, Glen Esk and Glen Lethnot. Kirriemuir is the usual gateway to the first three.
Is there a hot tub cottage in Glen Clova itself?
Not on this page. These stays are in the villages and farms near the glens, and each card shows its village. The page sorts them by distance from Glen Clova.
Are these stays good in winter?
Many have a woodburner or open fire as well as the tub. Roads at the head of the glens can be affected by snow, so check the forecast before you set off.
Do any of them have wood-fired hot tubs?
Yes, several around Kirriemuir and Memus. The card says which type of tub each stay has.
