Where to stay in Angus

Angus runs from the North Sea to the edge of the Cairngorms, and where you stay changes the whole trip. We only list stays with a hot tub on the property, so this is a guide to choosing between four parts of the map rather than a list of every hotel.

The Angus coast

Arbroath, Carnoustie and Montrose are the main towns, with sandy beaches, red sandstone cliffs and long dog walks. Arbroath is known for its abbey and for smokies, the hot-smoked haddock. Carnoustie has the championship links and a wide beach. Montrose has its tidal basin and a long flat beach. Pick the coast for sea air and easy driving. See Arbroath, Carnoustie and Montrose.

The glens and the hill villages

Kirriemuir, Brechin and Forfar are the towns where the plain meets the hills. Kirriemuir is J. M. Barrie’s birthplace, and Glamis Castle is a short drive away. Behind them the glens run north. This is the choice for walking, wood-fired tubs and winter nights by a stove. Start with hot tub cottages near the Angus glens.

Around Dundee

Dundee has the V&A on the waterfront and RRS Discovery moored beside it. The stays on the Dundee side, at Invergowrie, Longforgan and Abernyte, give you the city by day and a tub at night. See hot tub lodges near Dundee.

The Perthshire edge

Our patch reaches west into Perthshire, with stays near Blairgowrie, Bridge of Cally, Pitlochry and Perth. These are the places for hills, bigger groups and the Cateran Trail. See Perthshire hot tub lodges, Blairgowrie and Pitlochry.

How to choose

For a beach and a dog, the coast. For walking and a woodburner, the glens. For a city day and a country night, Dundee’s side. For a group of eight or ten, Perthshire has the biggest houses. Whichever you choose, filter by tub type, dogs and sleeps beside the cards below.

Questions guests ask

What is the best part of Angus to stay in?

It depends on the trip. The coast suits beaches and dog walks, the glens suit walking and wood-fired tubs, and the Dundee side suits city days. The guide above sets out all four.

Do all the stays have a hot tub?

Yes, every stay we list has one. The card says whether it is private, wood-fired or shared.

Can I bring my dog?

Many stays accept dogs. Use the Dogs welcome filter and check the owner’s rules for limits and charges.
