Private, wood-fired or bookable

“Hot tub” covers a lot. Here’s what the owners say about theirs, so an anniversary doesn’t end with a timetable for a shared tub.

Wood-fired

Lovely on a cold night, but it needs feeding. Light it after lunch if you want to be in by dark. Most come with the first batch of logs.

Bookable

The estate cottages near Carnoustie share one tub that each cottage books for private sessions. Great value, less spontaneous.

04When to go

The best time for a hot tub break in Angus

Dec–Feb

Winter

Under 7 hours of daylight in late December, so the tub’s on long before dinner. Book early for Christmas and New Year.

Mar–May

Spring

Lambs on the farm stays, quiet glen roads and lighter evenings for a soak after a walk.

Jun–Aug

Summer

It stays light until after 10pm around midsummer. The busiest and dearest weeks.

Our pick

Sep–Nov

Autumn

Pink-footed geese arrive on Montrose Basin and the glens turn bronze. Quieter weeks, long evenings in the tub.

06Questions

Questions couples ask

Straight answers from the holiday companies’ own listings.

Which Angus hot tub cottages suit couples best?

The ones that sleep exactly two, such as 1-Bedroom Lodge with Hot Tub in Kirriemuir, Ralston Bothy and The Shepherd's Hut at Glenskinno. If you’d like more room, plenty of cottages sleep three or four.

Can we bring the dog?

Most of our stays welcome dogs, usually one or two. The card shows the limit and the cottage page says whether there’s a charge.

Are the hot tubs private?

Most are, and a good few are wood-fired. The estate cottages near Carnoustie share one tub that you book by the session, and a handful of listings don’t say. Every card tells you which kind you’re getting.

Do you take the booking?

No. We’re an independent guide. The Check Prices button takes you to the company that lets the cottage, such as Holiday Cottages, Cottages.com, Luxury Cottages or Sykes, and you book with them. We may earn a commission, which never changes your price.
